Japan Disaster – Flash Memory Price Update

No Comments | USB Flash Drives

As you may recall, the recent earthquake in Japan had an impact on Flash Memory prices and caused them to rise sharply. We previously blogged on this topic (see past blog here) and promised to keep you posted on the progress. Fortunately, prices have come down slightly and are currently stable since the terrible disaster. Chris Love, Managing Director of USB-FlashDrive comments below on the current and possible future situation:

The contract rate for NAND Flash Memory hit a 7 month high in the first half of April as the earthquake in Japan disrupted the supply. Since the spike we have seen a small decrease in price. Some say prices will rise, forecasting that the big manufacturers will order and stock larger amounts of chips to secure ample inventory, others say that unless demand catches up with supply we will start to see prices dip.

A weakening dollar has also helped bring prices down.

Our advice, as always, is to validate USB Flash Drive quotes for no more than 5 days at a time!

Chris Love, Managing Director – USB-FlashDrive

It must be noted that even though Flash Memory prices did rise somewhat we still offer the lowest prices for customised USB Flash Drives on the market – without sacrificing quality. Flash Memory is very much a commodity and we ALWAYS offer the best, most up-to-date prices.
